TV Star Makes A Come Back and Lots Of Preparations

In May, our students who are 13 years and older can go to the States to an International Student Convention.  Right now, there are 33 who are showing interest and quite a few of them have paid their first $250.00 deposit.  This year the Convention is going to be held at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Dennis and I are also going!  I am very excited.  The students can register to enter a variety of sports and lots of other exciting things.  Last year, we watched some of it online.  The kids and other chaperone's will be staying on the campus, but we're staying in a hotel nearby.  Anyway, just a little over a month ago, we were out to dinner with another couple from the school here that are both teachers ~ she is our music teacher while he teaches in the high school.  We were discussing what could be done for a major fundraiser and Darla said about having an outdoor High School band concert with perhaps a very light refreshment.  Well, Dennis turned her loose and now we are having our 1st Annual ISC Extravaganza this Saturday.  There's going to be the band concert, skits by some of our teachers, Aunt Julia who is well known here on the Island and just turned 102 years old will be here playing her drums, a lot of cultural things will be done, another local Church has a large band who is coming to perform, and much, much more.  The light refreshments have turned into full course dinners :o))  The kids and a lot of other people have been selling tickets for BBQ chicken dinners and hot dog dinners for the kids.  At the end of the evening, they will be serving snowcones and we'll end with fireworks!

Then early this morning, Dennis and the music teacher went to one of the local TV stations and did a spot during the Daybreak Show.  It was awesome ~ of course, if you remember this is Dennis' third time to do this.  So he is becoming a novice at it! haha!!  Darla was very nervous and a few times stumbled for words :o)  I said I would have been very nervous, too!!  I just thought you'd enjoy watching the TV spot that was done.  I'm going to try to take lots of pictures on Saturday!  I hope I can be successful at that.  I heard yesterday that over 600 lbs. of chicken have been donated so far and that someone gave 900 bags (serving size) of plantain chips.  Lots of drinks, salads, desserts, etc. are also being given.  We've already been given several hundred dollars in monetary donations as well!!  So, it looks like it's a super idea and lots and lots of work.  Tomorrow after I finish working the office, I'm baking about 10 dozen cupcakes!

Check back later over the weekend for pictures of the Extravaganza!!

If everything goes the way as planned it should be a super "1st Annual ISC Extravaganza"!! Lots to be done tonight and tomorrow morning/early afternoon. I've got between 8 - 10 dozen cupcakes to bake and put icing on. I'll probably be feeling or looking like a cupcake by the time I'm finished with them :o) And on top of that, I forgot that we've got a funeral tomorrow morning for someone in the community! What another busy, busy weekend!! So, no time to kick up our feet this weekend to relax.
